Fassil obtained his Doctorate in soil science from Gent University, Belgium in 2002. · He has more than 25 years teaching, research and leadership experiences taking up various academic positions: lectureship, assistant professorship, associate professorship and full professorship of soil science in the major public universities of Ethiopia. · Fassil is presently a full professor of soil science and program lead of the Center for Excellence in Soil and Fertilizer Research in Africa (CESFRA) at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), Morocco.
